Maastricht University (UM) is a public university based in the town of Maastricht, the Netherlands, located almost on the borders with Belgium and Germany. Founded in 1976, the university is the second youngest of the 13 Dutch public universities. With over 16,000 students and 4,000 staff, UM offers a wide choice of academic programmes. Maastricht University internationally stands out for its innovative approach to learning and its internationalization. The UM is the most international university in the Netherlands and among the most international on the European continent, with almost 50% of its students and more than 30% of its staff coming from abroad. Most programmes are taught in English and European and international themes are integrated in research and education. The student and staff composition create an international atmosphere that is attractive to Dutch as well as international students and employees.
