The first project result (PR) is a needs analysis which will determine the concrete needs, opportunities, anxieties, promoting factors and barriers related to the introduction of new learning methods that can be a supplement to the traditional physical internship in the future hospitals.

The needs analysis will be based on input and feedback from the main target groups being - Medical doctor students - Nursing students - Teaching staff from the hospitals, - Coordinators of internships.

In order for the project to ensure maximum success, it is important that the target groups are involved from the beginning and get a substantial opportunity to express their opinion about the future organization of internships in hospitals. It is thus very important to use including working methods to gather input, and in this phase of the project, design methods will be applied, such as Bono’s thinking hats, which is a structured method that allow for all actors to be heard and allow for all kinds of information to be brought into the process, from feelings to facts.

A design thinking activity like i.e. The Bono’s thinking hats can be used to structure the input to the needs analysis.

By using this kind of structured design thinking approach, the partners will make sure that all kinds of relevant knowledge will be included in the analysis.

The University Hospital from Catalonia, Germans Trias I Pujol, will be the lead of this PR and the following tasks will be implemented:

  1. Development of common guideline The PR leader will, based on a workshop and discussions during the kick-off meeting, present a common knowledge guide, a concept description on how to run the co-creation event and a needs analysis report structure that all partners will use to gather local knowledge and information for the needs analysis.

  2. Recruiting students each partner will recruit students to participate in the co-creation workshops. Teaching staff and coordinators of internship will also be engaged to participate in the workshops

  3. Local Co-creation workshop Based on the knowledge guide and the concept descriptions, all partners will carry through a local co-creation workshop with the participation of the representatives from the end users; students, teaching staff and internship coordinators.

  4. Local needs analysis. Based on the input from the co-creation workshop, the partners will use the needs analysis report structure to write the local needs analysis.

  5. European Needs Analysis Report Based on the local needs analysis’ the PR lead will elaborate a European needs analysis, which will be one of the important building blocks of the development work in the process.
